The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee is planning to finish the selection of Olympic volunteers in 2013.It was announced by Dmitry Chernyshenko on the Public Council for the Games that was held in Sochi on the 4th of October.

25 000 volunteers are needed to organize the Sochi 2014 Games. At least one thousand people of retirement age will become volunteers at the Games. As the President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko noted, today they have received 115 000 applications.

13 000 volunteers have already completed the stages of selection. Over 50% of volunteers’ positions are already filled in a half of functions, in which the volunteers will be working. All volunteers will pass a tough preparation containing a series of trainings. These programs will acquaint future volunteers with the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and provide them with knowledge and practice for work on the Olympic venues.

“We need a team of professionals for the Games. Therefore we create opportunities for volunteers to get necessary experience and knowledge through participating in organization of the most major international competitions”, - noted Dmitry Chernyshenko.

He marked that the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee has a lack of sport volunteers. For the Sochi 2014 Games it is needed to find 5 000 volunteers who are advanced in skiing. The organizers intend to invite them from abroad. “Bit by bit we are gathering people who have skills enough to do a hard work on the slope” – explained D.Chernyshenko.
